BHNC Membership Information

Membership in the club is somewhat exclusive.  Although there are no formal bylaws for the club, there are certain guidelines that are adhered to.  Both the requirements and some of the benefits of joining are listed below...

Membership Requirements

Before being considered for BHNC membership, candidates must:
1.) Be sponsored by a current BHNC member in good standing. This can best be accomplished by personal contact, and getting to know that member. This is of the utmost importance, as we have had members in the past who later proved that they did not join for the best interest of the organization.
2.) For each membership type:
  • a. Regular Membership: Own at least 100 different Bust half dollar die marriages attributed to Overton. For candidates who only collect the early Flowing Hair and Draped Bust type half dollars, the requirement is lowered to 30 different die marriages. Note: Multiple die states or documented sub-varieties count as only one die marriage.
  • b. Associate Membership: Own at least 30 different Bust half dollar die marriages attributed to Overton. For candidates who only collect the early Flowing Hair and Draped Bust type half dollars, the requirement is 10 different die marriages.
  • c. Junior Membership (under 18 years old) The candidate must own at least 5 different Bust half dollar die marriages attributed to Overton.
3.) Be genuinely interested in upgrading or adding new die marriages to their set.
4.) Have their collection attributed and graded by their sponsoring member(s) to verify the die marriages and grades on their application.
5.) Furnish, with their application, a listing of bust halves currently owned; by date, die marriage, and grade.
6.) Furnish, with their application, a check for $25 made payable to BHNC (application fee plus first year membership fee).
7.) Furnish, with their application, a signed confidentiality undertaking in regards to the membership roster and census.
8.) Undergo a 30-day review period by the current members before being accepted into the club.
9.) Furnish to the census keeper, on a semi-annual basis, a listing of halves currently owned; by date, die marriage, and grade.
Most importantly, the candidate must be full of the "fever" and of course be "nuts" for Bust Halves!
